Diana Gallegos, PhD

Diana Gallegos, PhD (she/her)

Diana started practicing yoga in 1997 with a few VHS tapes that her parents bought her and her fist group class was in 2002. Before she started teaching yoga to others, she received her Ph.D. in neuroscience and completed a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in the Center on Aging at the University of Iowa. It was in 2010 that she was offered a research-scientist position at the UI but decided instead to dedicate her life to teaching yoga!

Diana has a deep understanding of the mind and the body with her background in biology, psychology, neuroscience, and body work. She is a certified yoga teacher, adaptive yoga teacher for disabilities, and sound healer. She has well over 1000 hours of training under her belt with many prominent yoga teachers from across the country. She is also currently working towards receiving her Practitioner Diploma in Sound Healing with Natalie Brown and Tony Nec, and her massage therapy license through Dancing Prairie Massage Therapy College and Pain Relief Center.

Her students and clients describe her as a very intuitive and compassionate teacher, with clear and easy to follow instructions. Her teaching style is greatly inspired by her teachers, Tias Little (founder of Prajna Yoga) and Matthew Sanford (Adaptive Yoga); however, her style is also unique from her years of teaching, self-study, and self-practice. Her classes are slow and mindful, with a focus on more foundational and therapeutic poses. Her students often say they feel more relaxed, clear-headed, and more ease in their bodies after her classes. Diana has always been very passionate about inclusion and bringing more diversity into the yoga community. She has helped open up yoga to many people new to yoga that didn’t think they would fit in or didn’t think they could practice yoga.

Diana teaches traditional group yoga classes and offers workshops and presentations in yoga, adaptive yoga for disabilities, and sound healing with a variety of instruments (Tibetan singing bowls, frosted crystal bowls, gongs, tuning forks, and drums). In private practice, she specializes in Adaptive Yoga for disabilities and works with individuals with various disabilities, such as traumatic brain injury, stroke, autoimmune encephalitis, progressive MS, amputations, developmental disabilities, scoliosis, cancer, and mental health challenges.
