10:30 am Tai Chi with Kevin
January 27 @ 10:30 am - 11:45 am
An event every week that begins at 10:30 am on Monday, repeating until March 9, 2020
Winter Session Begins January 20th- March 9th.
Tai Chi is a powerful and gentle form of moving meditation that incorporates breath-work and body awareness to increase a sense of calm and clarity. The class consists of a series of dynamic qigong warm-up exercises, a short meditation session, and instruction in Longevity Tree, a slow, compassionate movement form that can help practitioners feel more balanced, centered, expansive and free. Longevity Tree Tai Chi is beneficial to individuals of all fitness levels and everyone is welcome. No previous experience with Tai Chi is required; Tai Chi is a come-as-you-are practice that helps to cultivate internal awareness and appreciation for the precious gift of chi—our life force that connects us to ourselves and to others.
Kevin began practicing Tai Chi in 2008 and became a certified instructor in 2010 in the rare Nam Hoa Temple Internal Arts tradition. Beyond its many wellness benefits—balance, strength, flexibility, better sleep, mental clarity, and immune support—Tai Chi offers a way of moving through the world that reduces anxiety and heightens a feeling of aliveness. After many years in academia, Kevin came to Tai Chi as a way to “get out of his head” and to experience his body with a greater sense of curiosity, gratitude, and integration. He holds a PhD in French literature from Princeton University and an MFA in fiction writing from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. He lives in Iowa City with his husband Jeff, their cat Joshua, and is currently working on his first novel.
