Guided Self-Practice is an approach to yoga where students work closely with the
teacher so that each student develops at their own pace. Verbal as well as consensual hands-
on assists provide instruction on techniques for movement, posture, breathing, concentration
The repertoire of movements and postures increases in a progressive manner – as one
group is integrated, new movements and postures are introduced. Applying this method often
requires modifying some forms and when necessary, tailoring specific sequences to address
any injuries or concerns. With regular practice, practitioners learn to move fluidly, safely and
Guided Self-Practice Yoga provides practitioners with the means to plant the seeds of
health, vitality, and self-awareness. Over time, the fruits of practice come to bear as more
thoughtful and loving connections with ourself, others, and our surroundings.
Josh is first and foremost a student of yoga. He has studied with many senior teachers in
order to receive wisdom in the traditional method for learning whereby knowledge is passed
from teacher to student.
Additionally, insights from years of teaching, practicing, and treating pain as a therapist,
have served to shape Josh’s approach to teaching. This culminates as a more student-centric
practice so that yoga is attuned to the contemporary body-mind. In this way, student and
teacher learn to safely apply yogic techniques to unlock physical, mental and energetic knots.
Josh believes that practicing yoga can be thought of as a way of taking back our body
and mind from our conditioning so that we might learn to flow with loving energy and spark an
awareness that our potential to experience joy is linked to the health and vitality of our

Intro to Guided Self-Practice Workshop
Guided Self-Practice Yoga is a way of practicing that seeks to restore normal
movement, unlock the breath, harness concentration and downregulate of the nervous system.
The uniqueness of each posture and movement is an invitation to meet these conditions. To
encourage this process, students work closely with the teacher so that each student develops at
their own pace. Instruction is offered by way of verbal and consensual hands-on assists. As the
conditions are met, the teacher provides instruction for new movements and postures and then
the cycle begins again.
The Intro to Guided Self-Practice Workshop is intended to present themes and principles
of the method to both the beginner and the more seasoned practitioner. Participants will be
introduced to several patterns of movement, including various warming-up sequences, ways of
transitioning in and out of postures, and therapeutic exercises. A selection of postures will be
investigated through myriad modifications and variations so as to show how the method might
be applied during regular classes. A sampling of musculoskeletal exercises will be explored to
provide students will a sense of how a more therapeutic approach might be employed in order
to attend to injury or other concerns. Yogic breathing techniques will also be introduced to
prepare students for Pranayama practice.
